Trump can notice what economists say – that investigative, whistleblowing journalism, has LARGE economic & welfare benefits for the public at large which the sponsoring outlet/journalist is not able to capture through sales or advertising. Govt. can recognize this by automatically giving financial rewards to investigations which attempt to expose corruption in the Federal or State govt. Outlets can qualify for the rewards by demonstrating what efforts were taken to investigate criminal activities and the honest and timely publication of their conclusions.

I can sympathize with Trump’s desire to openly conflict with media outlets he believes are being deliberately unfair and systematically attacking him (whether that is legit or not). However, banning them from the press briefing is not an effective political strategy or a way to fight back. What he should do instead is start a website or produce YouTube videos calmly stating what he sees and unfair and documenting, with specifics, why he claims that to be the case.
