Re: The overabundance of software talent (repeating things I’ve blogged about many times b4) – this is absolutely viewed as strong econ plan & not a cause for supply/demand anxiety. The overall econ plan is to bring the automation/engineering/testing mindset to all work – business processes, finance, landscaping/forestry, healthcare, farming, construction, home maintenance, etc. In every area we are looking for what are currently the most boring/routine parts in the eyes of workers & seeing if we can introduce automation to take care of that part of the work. This is a natural partnership with non-automated work in most areas. Also, in the EE/nanotech/materials/chemistry space we are trying to push down (into micro/nano/analog ) the range of things that can be metaprogrammed through a constraint based description language & then factory specialized/compiled for optimal implementation and production workflows.

Some algorithmic designers will continually pursue the creation of better algorithmic design tooling, but the mode should be trying to also gain expertise at the interfaces where algorithms are seeing physical world implementations using robotics/IoT/drones & AI for NLP/planning/situational adaptation.
