Josh“Kwik trip” – on an oil truck. Sort of a sick commentary on my Mom’s death, but also related to other discussions. I picked up some glue and other supplies at Walmart to deal with the lamp in back, so I felt like Syria and the Hannukah story kind of ties that together.

JoshI read Joseph Heller’s Good as Gold as a teenager, in the late ’70s. It didn’t interest me very much at the time. But somehow I remember parts and I’m finding it useful over the past year or so for thinking about what DC politics and phoniness is actually like. There may be better or more accurate caricatures in other books, but among the one’s I read, Good as Gold is the best fit.

JoshOr was it personal? Asian CIA woman in Denver??

JoshSome parses of the text including chi, ong, and Elway, a Denver sports legend having something or other to do with endorsing heterosexuality, as some have it.

JoshI have a sense that the FBI is okay with recruiting lesbians, at least in the criminal division. Whereas the CIA mainly recruits woman who are into men (and fooled into thinking they can be with men…). As a result, very few CIA women are actually lesbian, while the ‘in’ women are only being allowed to have “lesbian” sex. It’s pretty screwed up.

JoshLocal FBI people would sometimes wear dark sunglasses to redundantly “out” themselves. Lately, I see a lot of them wearing “Beatles” shirts, which may a sort of Sean Spicer reference…though when you think about it, it’s clear that was always there -c.f.
“You say you wanna revolution…Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right….” etc.

JoshAt that time, 15 year mortgage was 1/2 percent lower interest rate as well.
-
April 17, 2017 at 9:04 am #2195

JoshCommitting to a mortgage involves a) a bunch of up front fees which are significant – I tried to get them as low as possible and it was still something like $2K,everything included (title insurance, bank fee, etc.) Most people pay a lot more. Then you get some money to pay with, but the additional cost of the money is the interest part of the monthly payment – the principal is just a payment to yourself. The interest part is front loaded because that is when one owes the most. So I looked at the fees and the monthly interest part at the front of the loan as the thing I was buying. I made that low by putting a lot of money down and taking the 15 year. So, in effect, our rent was very low while we lived in a big house.

JoshSkyhorse Publishing, I figure, must be a small outfit where the owner does not have a covert relationship with Spook. So they publish things spook doesn’t like, and they get less effective promo.
At least that’s my theory.

JoshYeah, it was interesting that the editor sounded like a male same sex sub having real sex. I haven’t come across that before in editors. But he probably doesn’t do much volume and it’s okay with Spook so long as it isn’t monogamous or any kind of love relationship…at least that’s my understanding.

JoshIt could be that the guy he is having sex with a supposed to be one of the (actually straight) pretend sub prostitutes being brought in, who prefers the other role. Or it could be another editor. His LCs were weak and this is not a pressing issue for me to try and investigate.
