When I was doing JFK research, I read Devil’s Chessboard by David Talbot (who hopefully is on Good Team somewhere). The opening of the book talks about the pre-CIA history of Allen Dulles & how he spent WWII in “neutral Switzerland”, where he made lots of contacts & probably changed himself. I read a lot of other things about military history & got a sense of how it unfolds.

My friend also turned out to be interested in that type of international journalism.
