joshAn example of what a theory might look like:
Experiments on List 1 that fit inside Small PChem boxes of Type 1
Experiments on List 2 that fit inside Small PChem boxes of Type 2
…Experiments on List 3 that….
Robotic Setup of Type 1 can cover Lists X,Y,Z
Robotic Setup of Type 2 can cover…Micro bench Package of Type 1 would be a desirable Format because (see above)…
So it’s a engineering/biz optimization of ChemE theory meets Robotic Theory meets opportunities with insights into likely future growth path & team needs plus potential market demand.

joshPackages of stuff come in bigger sizes, so it’s plausible that a typical bench has a mixer box, an analytical box, & some mechanisms to transport between the 2.

joshThere is a 3D Printing capability to make specially shaped housings inside the PChem boxes

joshMany experiments like to try our arrays of slightly different/contrasting treatments. How many batches of runs are required is a key issue. Another key issue, part of that, is how effective is the robot at develivering contrasting prep to arrays of tiny bins. What design? Maybe something like a automated dry cleaner with micro-pipette shooters?

joshTo include nanotech experiments, which have macroscopic physical config reqs, it’s relevant to think about how to generalize “a treament spot”. Something like Deposit Pattern + Optional Tamping/Mixing/Smoothing + Optional Sealing steps

joshI’m inspired by the 1-off example of the FBI’s incredible spy attack packing tape applicator drone. The drone leaves 2 in. wide swatches of sticky tape to pretend it’s from the dumb human. In a lab bench, it could be some minimal size – I don’t know what the size is though. The tape itself is very clear plastic with powerful silicon circuit capabilities. The drone, however big it is, apparently spits sheets of goo that then get pressed to the surface with a timing controlled by speed/size of the drone. It’s a pattern of application that matters to some set of research tests.

joshDesign optimizations will look at where it makes sense to use disposable trays/micro-pipettes etc. One can also consider an intermediate solution where the container material is able to be recycled by being reformed & then coated with a clean/inert layer at the surfaces.
