    I looked into using conventional light-emitting diodes to dissipate static. It’s not easily workable with the basic parts because the light-emitting function only happens in particular voltage & current ranges that are not ez to control in the static dissipation context. However, a more complex EE design could use capacitors to step up voltage/current that is then dissipated by pulses delivered to the LED. That might be convenient where a battery is either full or not desired.
