Many songs have been written claiming that Heine gang doesn’t really want in couples to have sex.

As a young boy, I experienced a hard pinch from a large stag beetle in folks backyard. I didn’t cry – I was really angry. Grabbed a hammer & smashed the unfortunate insect. I have no idea if that inspired a Massive Attack album cover, but there absolutely have been stranger coincidences in my life.

There are some LPs I heard as a boy that I am still quite fond of. As a preschooler, I used to listen to Weavers On Tourfrom my parents’ record collection. It features some lively, “joke” songs, that hold up pretty well

In 3rd-grade music class, we had a music station with headphone, where we listned over and over to the Beatles Hey Jude album. This disc was actually a compilation of singles rather than a “real” Beatles album. But it holds up as a really good compilation.

Youth orchestra rehearsals exposed me to Schubert’s C Major symphony & led me to seek out the famous Furtwängler recording. It runs for a little under an hour, and it is really magical. Why? The composition itself is a great symphony which develops & builds themes & harmonic structures in a dramatic way & the interpretation uses a lot of changes in tempo & dynamics to emphasize the structure – that isn’t something intellectual that one thinks about -it’s just a description of what the mind’s ear does automatically as the record becomes familiar. I felt that this record had magical properties that could heal me if I was sick. It builds a lot of positive energy.

It turns out that Gwen Stefani’s Rich Girl is a cover of Fiddler on the Roof and not the similarly titled Hall & Oates hit.

My parent’s home featured a very full & messy attached garage. Mom was into having a lot of food around & used the shelves in the garage as a kind of second or third pantry. Dad cut a hole in the garage door for our cat to come in and get warm while he mewed for a proper entry & his food was there sometimes too. Raccoon’s could also get in sometimes and eat the food – either Moms or the cats. Tommy the cat was outsized by the raccoon & pretty worked up about it. So Dad made a show of hostility when he had a chance to shoo the raccoons away. This version of my Dad probably didn’t attach any secret meaning to “racoon” or “Gideon’s Bible”.

Karl Heinz Stockhausen’s Stimmung is a lengthy, partly aleatoric, acapella vocal composition from 1966. It is said to have been motivated by the composer’s contemplation of the creation of an artificial Heine Error who was only an A person, not seeing the Heine world. That might have been me, though perhaps the idea was simply in vogue at the time & carried out in various places. The words the singers use are names of different gods of modern & historical world religions. The idea seems to be that without any access to key, much of the world’s vocalizations are like some inaccessible, unexplained religious secret or magic cult. How much do you know about all of those gods? Are you motivated to find out more? What if you realized that knowledge of what each one supposedly demands could save or end your life?

The human brain is amazingly good at detecting hidden structures & is able to perceive many in this music, even on first hearing.

“God of Impossible” – that could be about ‘government overdose’ or ‘big big love’ or anything. You need to find your own interpretations.

Is a non-textual work about the Hiroshima bombing political? Of course? Why? It’s not denied as a reality. But the US govt. was involved & there is political pressure not to bring up negative associations connected to government actions. That’s unfortunate. Government actions should receive the most intense scrutiny & criticism. Performance of anything can be political because someone will like it & someone will hate it.

This piece is not meant to be liked. So listening is a political act too.

Following on the topic of the prior tweet… Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville Summer of 1915” is explicitly, in key, about Heine killing.
    Knoxville Summer of 1915 lyrics

It doesn’t talk about the link to the U.S. Army. But the reality is that DOD size, wealth, power, and attacks on both active military personnel increased dramatically with WWI, WWII, Vietnam, & post 9/11 & we can infer links to attacks on civilians from the things that military leaders say (& personal observation in my case.,.), It doesn’t inform outsiders. It is popular with audiences. It isn’t recent. The lyrics were written by James Agee (not a fan of govt. one assumes) in 1938 and the set to music by Samuel Barber in 1947.

The picture & tweet here is meant to evoke some recent & old themes:

Feeling sexy, feeling jealous, loyalty, regret, & seeing indy land.

I really enjoyed this piece of indy writing about Doug Hopkins: Jesus of Suburbia – Brian Smith. And it increased my fondness for the Gin Blossoms song “Hey Jealousy”, though I do actually like the hit version better than the original that featured Hopkins performing. Before I learned key, I heard the song concept as being about putting people relationships first & having regrets about failures to do that or make it happen. That is still how I hear it now.

Politicians get picked on for their names. I didn’t wish to emphasize that. No, the “No…Why…No…No…Why…” style of text reminds one of the musical leitmotif in Airegin which reminds one of a low flying dive bomber releasing bombs that continue a downward slide. And the Air Gin of the Heine is often linked to Air Force & similar military rackets.

Continuing our Penny Lane theme. Izzy Dubin was another colorful resident of Baird Road. He drove a contractors truck & had developed a skill to back it into his long, tricky, steeply downhill sloping driveway, the entrance of which he shared with the X/Quickly/Casey/… house. He & his wife Lillian had 4 children, so the lyric “A four of fish and finger pies” may have referred to Lillian and he.

Help Tip: If you are trying to either get kicked off the Heine or to get out of the NN back with a claim of “not ass” or “some guy”, then it may help you to have a non-ass der story & a connection to a now dead or replaced guy may be helpful from the POV of only your version of events is now available.\

This performance is sonically & musically sort of a semi-coherent wall of sound:

I thought “helium” & “Son of Flubber”. Fred MacMurray is singing here. My Dad might have been informed that he liked Fred MacMurray’s film work. The record is surprisingly charming.
