I was going to use this song for a different tweet. IT interpreted that as a request.

This tweet, & some other comments, got me to think about how Heine punishes people for saying anything specific about their sexual reality or history & also attacks NN for not being in key (as people get more covert in key, that helps NN!). Peter Gabriel’s 1986 song “Big Time” focused on how trying to sound like a DIA (A,D key) without describing much specifics except
“I’m big”. Today, that’s not a good idea…but perhaps it still gives some ideas for boilerplate style. Or maybe not.

52 Girls is one theory of how CH works& how USA was seen as a good hunting ground. Now this scheme too is under attack.

Records of Cage’s works for prepared piano have many degrees of freedom, including how the piano is prepared, the interpretation, & the recording details. Margaret Leng Tang finds a powerfully expressive groove in this record of Perilous Night (1943-44). The duration of all movements is only 13 mins or so, & I think the first link is set up for auto play if that is enabled on YouTube.

The harp gets a few feature moments in Scheherazade (and John Cage was famous for living openly in a gay couple with Merce Cunningham). Most performances of Scheherazade are enjoyable – this 1969 record features a real Russian style string section.

This tweet is, metaphorically, what my life is like (or was a few years ago – now the Turks don’t bother). 10-15 years ago I watched an episode of This Old House where they pointed out that this sort of concrete stoop can be covered with synthetic wood to make it look a lot better. The front deck of my house in Arden Hills was woood, but the planks were cracking & peeling, so we replaced it with synthetic wood. I think the color was Brazilian Rosewood or something like that. Basic white would look good in the picture.

It’s strange for me to wake up & realize that the world of letters regards an individual with no knowledge of Heine mafia or key as a sort of aboriginal, almost mythical creature.

The video below contains footage from a 1961 Italian film Il Posto that was designed as an artist’s conception of a working-class aborigine in the metro.

“Carlos Montoya” is an example of a career based on a long running fake joke about “idiot NN” Wiki tells us that the real man was, of course, killed in childhood & the career is based on pretending that isn’t true. The musical performances are meant to encapsulate the idea that non-Heine will never be best, always make mistakes, & never quite get it. Many of them sound like a pro, sort of glibly sight-reading a new chart.

Mountains of Things may strike many as too literal and out of touch with the world of 2019. For me, it works well as a literal and as an ironic song. In the present day, all sorts of insane acts are still said to be motivated by some hidden economic scheme. In my life, I always felt that people were my most important investments. The spy armies of NATO/DOD/CIA/FBI etc. have now given me 100% loss on those real-world lives & connections. Even so, those were the still best investments to make; the present-day value is a lot more than memories.

Los Lobos’ Rita doesn’t directly reference The Beatle’s Lovely Rita. But one gets a sense that it is consciously meant to be a modern, more knowing, less glib update.

I linked Springsteen’s She’s The One mainly for the lyrics. The live performance below, also from ’75, features better sound than the album version.

This political sound collage provides almost a physical sensation of movement when listened to on headphones – the channels are mixed in a way that sounds like moving an old analog radio tuner while bringing the listener closer to & further away from different sound sources in some busing Italian metropolis.

This later work seems to evoke an idea of extinguishing unregulated sound.

Count Basie (Joe Williams vocals) & Ray Charles recorded “Smack Dab In The Middle”, but this record from The Jacks was a few years earlier. It gives a better sense of a covert plan to take advantage of some turmoil & round-up many.

I linked Idiot Wind once before, but at that time I didn’t see that the lyrics, in DI style D key, were supposed to actually sound like my Mom when she’s upset. Would she have thought or said those things?

The Mercy Seat is a 1988 single/album track from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The version below is from a 2013 radio station performance. The lyrics, in D,M,C key tell a long running story from the POV of both the Heine killer & the Heine victim.

People want to know why there are few or no tunes some days? It’s mainly a function of
    1. Do I see a tweet with an interesting picture or text I want to share (by someone who can take the unwanted Deep State attention that comes with my attention) and
    2. how busy I am (for productive or unproductive reasons). So, ya know, try to share interesting pictures with the tough dudes in your neighborhood.

Sparks Go Go is a Japanese band – pretty tight, judged by this video. Their song “Holiday In The Sun” is not related to the Sex Pistols song.

This instrumental from Smokey Bandits also has a strong rhythm section, accompanying a melody instrument that sounds like an 8-bit bazuki.
