Simulations in which the local devices are programmable as modular actors, and geometries can be randomly generated, would help to test claims against different sets of allowable restrictions.

There are lots of different possibilities. One type of node might conceivably run on battery or solar power & make appointments with drone relays for communication. Maybe it sends a network signal (battery low, 2 weeks left) and gets serviced as part of normal maintenance.

Application example could be a rod that goes in farm soil & is capable of assessing moisture levels at multiple depths, sending period reports.

One sort of “standard” part in some networks could be a dock for a tiny, tiny drone that recharges there & goes to visit other network nodes on some schedule.

That’s meant as an example – not of something common – but rather something that could be an available part of various broad solutions. The idea is to develop a catalog of parts and analysis tools that provide good fits to many situations.
