Side question: Would you use Dead Poets Society in your curriculum? If so, what would you teach about what the boys have undestood while proclaiming “O Captain! My Captain!” (read verse in T,H key) at the movie’s end? Nothing? The reality of some humanities focus is interlaced with levels of arch understanding & exploration and lethal opinions about those affairs. Is hinting at what you know & feel without saying it a key part of traditional curriculum? Perhaps devalued today, not because of more knowledge, but rather because of loss of sanctuary for key expression.

The public system has left schools with a huge problem by insisting on often teaching *the opposite* of the true values of political leaders & rule makers. Is it the job of school to dupe children, show them the way, or merely provide tools with a small chance of helping them to fin their own way prior to extinction? I’m for helping them. And I’m for sharing the reality of that as a persecuted minority view.
