I propose the idea of having some choreographers help out with the research side of the robotics enterprise. In that role, choreographer means someone with the ability to imagine attractive movement sequences & break it it into parts that the “dancer” can perform. For robotics research, there are more degrees of freedom because the dancer is being designed for multiple tasks. Iterative design + optimization is hard & can be slow. So let’s try adding some hail mary tries from imagination/blackboard & see how it goes. It will also be useful for animation research, including improving software to instantiate the imagined concepts/movements & get a precise model that matches the mental image. For commercial competition, it also matters how it looks. -
