What makes sense to assert in different forms of “public” vs. keep mum about is about cold war tactics, not any hard & fast rules. When I was taking to court for a renegotiation of child support arrangements, I asserted a lot about the hot ave here because it was relevant to the situation & couldn’t be ignored, IMO. The thrice replaced judge I never saw in court or corresponded with was biased against me & sealed the records, but in lala covert land I was happy with the effect of writing there.

joshIf your code interacts with the library through a scripting language interface than you are also insulated from ABI changes unless the script interface changes. Notice that C++ developers like to use inheritance & no technique can make a derived library immune to ABI changes in the classes it inherits from. As Valentin points out, C++ can add a stable set of calling classes – some small inefficiency loss as the price for the independence. Compilers could add heuristics or directives that relocate code for the calling class & the work class to the same sections of read only memory at load time – that would reduce the inefficiency in a long running program.
