Research Q: What forms would be most useful for modeling similarity or confusion/substitutability data sets?
The naive working statistician view is something like this:
build regularized log normal models, starting with single factors/tests, then adding xy factors if warranted, then adding xyz factors if warranted etc. Normalization can be computationally expensive, so only due that were relevant. Regularization – which method is best? Crossvalidation/bootstrap plus extra penalty for small sets…That method may be too inefficient for large data sets. It feels like we are missing a practical model for moving from small data sets to large data sets in a smooth way. -

Moderatorhttps://www.geeksforgeeks.org/types-of-distributed-system/
A good overview for emphasizing heterogeneity of the term “distributed system”. In spontaneous talks, we imagine a programming language for applications that rely on “Futuristic AI compiler” to read runtime configuration of a given network, administrative access forms, etc.& distribute the computing components of the declarative specification of a given application. What is the correct abstraction level for distributed application programming & optimization (assuming our preferences for storage, response speed, etc. are somehow described by the compiler inputs?
Ed: In the literature, the term “structured overlay networks” refers to modeling the graph structure of data movements in distributed systems. For the application programming, a hard drive, for instance, on a local system could also be a different abstract location, only connected to the Mem system of the local host. For compiler optimization, of course, one wants the traditional measures of performance/expectation – it may indeed be adequate in most cases to simply represent movement of chunks of data, less frequently, from outlying spots to a given mem/CPU. But perhaps not always so. Intuitively, it depends on the speed, but there is a threshold below which “fetch/store” separates the interaction between the decisions about implementation sub-optimization at different graph nodes. -
