Another issue with trust is that spook is analyzing many dimensions of GT for attacks, including who is key for ops, who has many social contacts, who has admin access, etc. They can run plays where they follow a target and blackmail them to commit security violations, even where that is not their intrinsic nature. Running away is one possibility, but it’s hard to do quickly & without being tracked. Another kind of fire alarm is to give the individual a mechanism to instantly de-escalation their levels of priviledged access & sound an alarm – analogous to the famous bank teller “buttons”.

We’re written a lot about the need to GT members to have face to face community that they see. This is essential for social, physical welfare, health & security. We’ve emphasized that the current work tast community, continuing educational communities, & vocation/avocation/skill interest communities for each person can be distinct & those other communities may be only long distance networking. But physical environment assessment will always be important. No anti-MITM protocol is going to solve the problem of someone with a gun or a knife at their neck, by their computer or away from it.

Connecting in all of these ways with robust, multi-path links is important.
