both dildo only fiends and penis gay rape fiends might have practical or political reasons to not want to be responsible for replacing the living guy and getting close to this story; there is currently a mini-trend of seeing stories in the press about some emerging awful where it turns out there is some sort of implicit conflict between these groups, so therefore murder/replacement didn’t go as smoothly as it does every day in all the situations you don’t hear about in the media.
