Really glad I’m reading Ventura’s American Conspiracies. He does something I was already thinking about…He pick’s a unifying theme and framework to tie his conspiracies together. For him it the idea of a conspiracy going far beyond the reported actors or trigger men. A wider story of power conspiring that has been suppressed. He starts each chapter with a formatted set of fields” <The Incident, The Official Word, My Take>. I am thinking of the frames I want to use. How the event relates to the broader context of who stands to profit is one angle, though that is further away from the events than the active conspirators. It’s a big part of the motive in <method, opportunity, motive>. Typically, though, economic benefit shapes a world view of events which then decides on action…biased, economically shaped world views mediate the proximal motivation and justification for conspiratorial, violent, action.

Have to say that one can see the shortcomings of “outsider publishing” – Skyhorse Publishing?? – in this book. Some paragraphs are really rough. It sounds to me like Ventura dictated verbally, the transcribers had no real editor skill, and the final editing didn’t take time, in every case, to fix the mish mash.

Ventura’s points about Lincoln assassination are well taken – leaving both the large number of plotters – clearly much larger than the 9 identified by official justice – and the fact that many other execs in Lincoln’s admin were targeted, and the fact that there had been a series of other plots to get Lincoln – all that changes the story.

Put it together with the series of plots against FDR, etc. Lots of powerful people felt assassination was a good tool in their econ/political struggles.

Put together with JFK…big plots happen and stories get suppressed.

When people ask…”How could conspiracy happen and nobody knows?” Answer is people did known and the public tale got squashed. There are a finite set of levers for spinning “the official story” and a finite set of levers for spinning story to the public in a way that sticks. Both sets can be controlled and manipulated. Result is stories that remain hidden, or are ignored/overlooked, or are forgotten.
